It's incredible to think how much of this could have been avoided if, as a species, we somehow had the capacity to slow down, consider and plan instead of "move fast and break things." As E. O. Wilson said:

"The real problem of humanity is the following: we have paleolithic emotions; medieval institutions; and god-like technology. And it is terrifically dangerous, and it is now approaching a point of crisis overall."
